In reply to <a href="/cannabis-parenting-tell-kids-mmj-use/#comment-137850">Nikki Schrage</a>.

Hi Nikki!

Thanks so much for your kind words and for taking the time to reach out to me. I can completely empathize with you in regards to your kids and cannabis - two years ago today - I sat in my living room trying to figure out exactly what you are currently facing - when do I tell my kids? At the time mine were 14,16 and 18 AND my stepson, who lived with us at the time, is a cop, so there was the weird dynamic of smoking my bong in front of a police officer every morning:) After weeks of thinking about it - I made the decision that I would not be "OK" with trying cannabis if I had to try and hide it from my kids. As I did more research I began to understand that it truly no different than any of the other drugs I have used for my MS over the years. It is a MEDICATION and I since I have never hidden anything about this disease from my kids, I wasn't going to start now. From day one - I told them about it - and just like my other medicines, I let them see it (and ask questions) AND I make sure it is kept in a secure and safe place where they can not access it.

My email address is meglewellyn @ gmail.com Shoot me an email if you want to chat - I can send you my digits!

In the meantime - keep kicking ass and being an amazing mom - it's what we do:)

Cheers!

Meg

Hi, I just read this blog along with others you have written. I have found them very helpful. I am contemplating medical marijuana for my ms and MS pain. It just passed to become legal in the state of Missouri this month. I've been wanting to try straight cbd but scared because idk anything about it nor do i know who is selling legit products. But as I've been wanting to try either for awhile now one if the things holding me back is my kids. My son is 13 and my daughter will be 11 in a month. My son is at a very impressionable time in his life as well as my daughter is not far from middle school. I am a very open person especially with my kids. I want them to know and understand things in life especially why I am the way I am and why I do what I do. So I have a question....when I do decide to make the leap to medical marijuana, should I and when do i talk with my kids about it? I have never asked questions like this or even read blogs like i have since i found yours. I can truly relate to a lot of what you have written. The way you think about life, having ms and the things you have experienced. I would just like to hear from you (someone other then myself) about how to talk with my kids. Thank you for writing these blogs. You have really helped me!
